Leland Richard Briggs - Our Charming Uncle Dick

Leland Richard "Dick" Briggs -August 6, 1917-March 27, 2009

Uncle Dick passed away surrounded by his family Friday evening a few months shy of his 92nd birthday. He had such an important impact on Bob's life through his example of hard work, being a charming gentleman, and his ability to generate lots of fun. Uncle Dick was so sweet always to each of us any time we saw him - especially to all the little kids. He was a famous cattleman, sheepman, and fisherman. He was a real rodeo cowboy with calf roping as his specialty. He also was a great golfer still hitting the links more than often at 90. Like all of the Briggs men and their sons, he was a devoted husband and an example to us all in his care of Aunt Gladys. We have been so blessed by the lives and examples of many wonderful Aunts and Uncles - our family is rich with the love of this great generation.

One of the greatest privileges of my live was to actually live on Briggs Ranch for two years surrounded by the four Briggs couples. They taught Bob and i so much about how to enjoy each other as a couple, how to help our neighbors, how to work hard and still have lots of fun, and especially how to become the kind of aunt/uncle and grandparents that will hopefully continue to share this great legacy of love.

Thanks Sue for that beautiful tribute. It still seems unreal. We are so blessed to have the Briggs and Davis family heritages ~ so few people get to exprience what we often take for granted. It wasn't always roses but our life style taught us the most important things in life. I'm not sure if all of you know this but Dee came to get Grandpa along with Grandma and several others. Right at the end his mind was clear and he was able to express what he was seeing. He couldn't get over how beautiful everyone was. Dee had actually brought 2 horses with him. I'm grateful tonight to have that to hold onto. I love you all so much! SK
