Wii(s) and Cheese and Smores and Snores

I want to wish everyone a happy MLK Day. I have been busy grading research papers so I have fallen a little behind on posting Carter's fun night pictures but before I do that I thought I might share some of the interesting facts some of my students were able to dig up and shared with me in their research papers. The first fact is in honor of MLK Day, I bet many of you did not know that Martin Luther King actually ended slavery. Now I know many of you will say this is inaccurate, Martin Luther King was not even born when slavery ended, but about half my research papers asserted this fact after we spent about three weeks of research on these papers so it must be true. Some other interesting facts my brilliant kids dug up: Chief Seattle was named after the city of Seattle where he was born and raised, Cesar Chavez did not like grapes so he boycotted them, Nelson Mandela has won over 100 Nobel Prizes, John Brown was Henry David Thoreau's brother and died of lock jaw, Rachel Carson spread DDT around farms across the country and that makes her great, Bill Clinton hired Al Gore as vice president after he lost the 2000 election to George Bush, and my favorite fact of all, Gandhi spent twenty years in prison for assinating world leaders and because of this he won the Nobel Peace Prize. I am so proud. I am sure I am going to win Teacher of the Year any day now, maybe I will win over 100 of those prizes. I wonder who teaches these kids history. I want to thank mom for carrying the blog torch while I graded these things (they do not deserve the honor of being called papers) for the last week, or as it will forever be known by me, the most depressing week of my life. Now on to some good stuff,

Wii(s) and Cheese

Last week Mr. Gamboa brought his Wii system down to our humble abode and even humbler T.V. (at least it is color) and we had a great time boxing, tennising, baseballing, olympicing, and rock staring. For any of you who have not played the Wii it really is like you are playing the games, I woke up sore in the morning (of course that is not saying much since any more I walk up a flight of stairs and I wake up sore in the morning.) Carter's favorite game was the Olympics Table Tennis competition I think because he beat me not once but twice. My favorite part of the night was the Guitar Hero competition and creating cracker designs with easy cheese. The saddest part was finding out that despite the fact that I have Rock Star good looks and moves my talent on the guitar is lacking. (I guess if I am ever going to make it big it will have to be as part of a boy band. So if your interested let me know, Bobarian? Brendan? Tyro?) I can't thank Mr. Gamboa enough and as he left he let me know that this was all about the blog points so look out mom even though your the only one posting you still have some competition. Smores and Snores

This week the fun night was an indoor camping trip. I was worried that after lego night and wii night smores and snores might not seem that cool to Carter but thanks to Mr. Burke, a science teacher at LBMS, who let me borrow his super high tech and easy to set up tent (think droopy the tent only it stays up) Smores and Snores turned out to be a great night. It is amazing that even in this era of technology something as simple as setting up a tent in your living room and playing games and reading ghost stories inside of it can still seem so magical to a kid (and his dad).
